Moral Development

Moral Development and I will like to talk about Kohlberg’s stages of moral development. Kohlberg’s details 6 stages of development separated into three levels. Stages 1 and 2 are the Preconventional stage. Stage 1 is obedience and punishment and Stage 2 is self-interest The next level will be the Conventional level which consist of stage 3 and 4. Stage 3 the interpersonal accord and conformity driven and stage 4 is authority and social order obedience driven And finally, the third level which is post-conventional consisting of stage 5 and 6. Stage 5 social contract drivenAnd stage 6 are the universal ethical principles driven.

As an educator I want to practice with my students the importance of decision making and moral dilemmas, so they know that they must make decisions from themselves and what is best for them as individuals.  I feel that this is important because as students we don’t get an understanding of ourselves as we just learn for test, but the student is never focus on in a since of life after school. I will incorporate different games and scenarios for them to see how they think and make decisions and their reasoning behind the decisions they make that will help them in life and allow them to see how important they are in society and they impact they have on the world.

This relate to my own personal development because as you get older you must make decisions on your own and the older you are the more complex life situations become. However, all the way to the stage in life I am in now I can see the moral dilemmas that I have encounter in life. Growing up you see the answer to the problems to be different from what you will pick now. For instance, an example from my peers was a scenario in which a person robs a bank and you witness it. He uses the money to give to a homeless shelter however, it is still illegal, so you face the dilemma of telling authorities or saying nothing. Me being younger I would’ve picked tell without giving a second thought as it wrong, but now I can think more on the topic and view my options in which I would it tell even thought it is illegal as it is for a greater good. Also, or decision can be affected due to the people we are around and the situations in which it details the relationship we have with the person rather a friend, lover or family member.

Preconventional

Stage 1 is obedience and punishment driven which is right and wrong due to what is punishable, and Stage 2 is self-interest driven which is right and wrong determined by rewards and people wants.

Stage 1

This Video Shows stage one in which Mr. Krabs is using bad words as he has previoulsy told Spongebob and Patrick not to use, however he does. Spongebob says he's going to tell Mr. Krabs mother and Mr. Krabs then begs not to tell as a punishment will insue

Stage 2

The video shows Plankton who is trying to steal the Krabby Patty formula which is wrong but he knows its for the betterment of his company.

Conventional

The next level will be the Conventional level which consist of stage 3 and 4. Stage 3 the interpersonal accord and conformity driven which being moral is being’s a food person in your own eyes and those of others and stage 4 is authority and social order obedience driven which being good means doing one’s duty-showing respect for authority and maintain the social order.

Stage 3

This explifies Stage 3 as Spongebob want to get into a bar but he is not seen to be strong enouhg no matter what he do. Patrick is willing ot beat himself up to help Spongebob out.

Stage 4

This image from sponge bob shows what can happen if order and obedience is no maintained in the forth stage of development.

Post Conventional

The third level which is post-conventional consisting of stage 5 and 6. Stage 5 social contract driven individuals are viewed as holding different opinions and values. And stage 6 are the universal ethical principles driven which is moral actions that determine by our inner conscience and may or may not agree with public opinion or society’s laws.

The show I chose to show that represent these two stages would be Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.  This show details life as we get older and we outgrow our imaginary friends where they go. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends showed us the (sur)reality of where they can go. While the show often focuses on comedy and simple morals, it often showed off how important individuality and creativity are to our lives. I think Madam Foster exemplifies the moral of the whole show: You are never too old to have an imagination. And this a bigger connection dealing with these two stages as sometimes you have to focus on what is best for you and how you view society
